Preface About the Math Trailhead
The Math Trailhead is a self-paced review of the algebra, functions, and trigonometry that Reed’s calculus sequence assumes. It is organized by topic rather than by course, so you can start wherever you feel shaky and work outward from there.
If you would like a suggestion for where to begin: headed for MATH 111, start with Functions and Algebra, then work through whichever of the other chapters feels least familiar. Headed for MATH 112, make sure you are quick with Inequalities and Absolute Value, especially absolute values, alongside Functions. Headed for STAT 141, start with Quantitative Reasoning, then Algebra. Headed for MATH 113, start with Algebra and the counting section of Quantitative Reasoning.
Every exercise here is a live WeBWorK problem. Enter an answer and submit it for immediate feedback, and use the option to generate a new version of a problem when you want more practice with the same idea. Nothing you type is recorded or reported to anyone: this is a place to practice, not an assignment.
Corrections and suggestions are welcome. If a problem renders strangely, or a correct answer is marked wrong, please contact Kyle Ormsby at ormsbyk@reed.edu. There is also a “Feedback” button on every page.
